  • Visitor Visa Extension for my aunt..

    Hi,
My aunt has a 10 yr visitor visa which was sponsored by her daughter. She is visiting me and her 6 month stay is comming to an end. She plans to stay for a couple more months and I want to extend her visa. Can I apply for her visa extension.

    Thank you in advance.

First check the process time at the center you are going to apply for extension. If the process time is more than the I 94 departure date then please do not apply for extension and let her go back before the expiry of I 94 date.

On the I-94 it is Feb 9th. But why r u suggesting not to apply?

Extensions beyond 6 months are very rarely approved without genuine reasons. Any stay beyond her I-94 (if extension is not approved) is considered illegal and her Visa will be automatically voided. I have even heard of a case when extension was approved but by that time even the extended I-94 date was past, resulting in the same thing.
This is my opinion and not legal advice.

If the process time is 8 weeks and the I 94 expiry date is Feb 09, then you will not get a reply before that date. If you wait for the result and if extension is not given then her visa is void. So, I advised as stated in my post.

She applies for her own extension (signs the form herself). You can only provide funds and a reason for her stay.
