VIsitor Visa extension/ going to UK , coming back

Hi,
Iam planning to extend my mother-in-law's visa. she has 10 yr multiple visa now. What if INS rejects the extension application , will they revoke 10 yr visa also ?
What if she travel to london on a week days trip and she can come back again into U.S SO THAT SHE CAN STAY for some more time US with out visa extension ?

please advise, Iam in a terrible confusion now......
