Stay during Visitor Visa Extension Pending

My In-laws have a 10 Year Multiple Visitor Visa they have come to USA last year (2010) and they have come again to USA on Visitor Visa in May 12 2011 and they have an I-94 visa valid up to Nov 11 2011. We have applied for an extension of their stay on Sep 22 2011 for 4 more months up to March 11 2012. We have received the receipt for the extension that we have applied.

Can they legally stay in USA after Nov 11 2011 while their extension is pending with USCIS?

If the extension gets rejected they will leave USA as soon as possible. In this case will it be a problem when they comeback to USA next time? Will it have any impact on their 10 year multiple visa?

If extension is denied after I-94 date, their stay after I-94 date is illegal and Visas are void.
