British Diabetic Spouse moving to US

I am looking for coverage for my spouse (71 yrs of age) who will be residing in the US April/May 2015. He is currently on pill medication for Diabetes and I am looking for coverage for him until I can hopefully get re-hired by my current employer in the US. I realise it is a pre-existing condition but am a bit confused on this as coverage wise. If a pre-existing condition isnt covered does that mean they dont pay for meds, retinol screening etc? I am assuming we cant shop for Obamacare etc as it doesnt cover over 65 year olds? Sorry but all this is new to me now.

He is coming on an IR1 Visa as he has been married to me for 10 yrs and I am a US citizens living in the UK for the last 9 years and we are moving back to the US. So he is going to be a permanent resident

Unfortunately, we don't have any insurance plans that would cover any pre-existing conditions related expenses. Therefore, no coverage for anything related to diabetes, for example, in his case.
