  • **Urgent** medical Insurance for pregnant visitor to USA

Hi. We are travelling from London to US and my wife is 6 weeks pregnant. I wanted to get a medical insurance in the US and I want to know what options do I have.

Does the pregnancy comes under pre-existing conditions?

I want to cover the maximum and I do not care about the cost that much as I want to be safe than sorry.

And if possible I wanted to know how the insurance works. If my wife goes for a routine check up will she have to pay the cost there and then and afterwards claim the money from the insurance? Are the routine check ups included in the insurance.

Sorry for so many questions but it will be much appreciated if you can clarify these if possible.

    Many thanks,
    Saad Khan

AFAIK insurers develop cold feet at the mention of word pregnancy. Simply because of the complexities and costs it involves if anything, God forbid, goes wrong, especially in a county like US. . I doubt you would get any coverage for pregnancy related issues.

This is my opinion not legal advice.

Pregnancy is considered pre-existing condition and NOT covered by any travel medical insurance.

Atlas America plans covers ONLY the complications of pregnancy up to 26 weeks: https://www.insubuy.com/atlasamerica-insurance/

It would still NOT cover any routine or expected expenses related to pregnancy such as check up, delivery etc.

Pregnancy cost can be very high in the U.S.

      Look at http://www.today.com/parents/canadia...ion-1D80302220

This person's bill is around $1 million and would NOT be covered by travel insurance.

Therefore, you would really need to be ready to take risk on your own.
