  • New India Assurance

    Hello

Did anybody have experience with New India Assurance.

Last month, my friend's in-laws came from India. In the very first week itself, his mother-in-law had a fracture in hand.

So far the total bill was for about $50,000, but my friend had to pay only $100. They bought the insurance in India for a max coverage of $100,000. He said that its working great for him.

For two months stay in US, the cost is only Rs.4,000 per person. The local company in US, he had to deal with is Coral(?).

As of now, I am very much inclined for it. My Mother-in-law is coming here next week.

If anybody else has any experience with "new India Assurance", please share it with us.

    Thanks

    Achyuth

In your friend's case, do you know whether the claim payment has already been made? In other words, have they already paid the money for the claim?

I don't know. The hospital saw the insurance papers and asked to pay for $100 only so far. He didn't recieve any other bills since then.

But he had been receiving copies of invoices that the hospital submitted to the insurance and thats how he come to know its been almost $50,000.

That does not really necessarily mean much until the claim is actually processed and money is paid to the hospital.

Could you please post his experience when the claim actually gets processed?

          New India Assurance

Iam also on the look out for insurance plans for my parents. Iam sort of torn between trying for US companies like IMG and Indian companies.

I looked into New India Assurance (googled). They do have an affliate in Florida.

          Disadvantages:
          -70 year age limit
-Travelers over 60 years of age and for those traveling to USA & Canada over 40 years the following Medical reports (from an MD Cardiologist) need to be submitted along with the proposal form:

          1. ECG
          2. Fasting Blood Sugar or Urine Strip test

These reports are required if the travel period exceeds 60 days and above.

In case of travellers unable to submit the above Medical reports cover stands restricted to USD 10,000.

But the plus from all this is that they look credible instead of blindly issuing you policies.

The other good Indian company seems to Cholamandalam MS. (venture between the Murugappa group and Japanese insurance company). They have deductible though of $400 but unlike ICICI and TATA they pay and you dont have to go running after them in India and they have customer service number in the US

Well hopefully I will do my homework well and choose the right company: US or Indian.

New India Assurance's Florida partner is Coris USA. Before you buy that insurance, read all the experience about Coris at this discussion forum or in the experiences section at https://www.insubuy.comhttps://www.i...rance-reviews/

If you still want to go for it, who can help you?

            2.
Chola Mandalam's claims are handled in Mumbai.
            >>>>

            54-A, M.Vasanji Road, Off Andheri-Kurla Road,
            Chakala, Andheri-(E), Mumbai-400093.,
            >>>>

Before buying that, ask your local hospital or doctor whether they are willing to handle the claims with people in India.

Having a US tolll-free number does not mean much. Any one (including you or I) can call AT&T, MCI or Verizon, get one toll-free number and have that US toll-free ring anywhere in India I like. Claims are still handled from India. That is what generally is the problem.

I don't know why does any one still want to buy visitor insurance from India? After having personally gone through bad experience, I am so frustrated and don't know what I should do.

What I have discovered is that the claims are handled by Coris USA when you buy insurance from government companies like New India Assurance, United, Oriental and National, all GIC companies, owned by government.

I bought the policy from National and all the checks up for my parents was done by them before coming to the US. However, when my father got sick, those CORIS people told me that the check up done in India is NOT valid and they will go by what the US doctors have to say whether something is pre-existing condition or not.
If that is the case, why the heck are they doing the drama of doing the medical tests in India?

Every time you call CORIS, you go through horrible customer service. Half the times, their office is not open, takes loooong time to connect to person, puts you on hold all the time, and they claim that they did not receive the papers even after I sent them by certified mail with return receipt. They say the papers may be in the mail room, may not have been scanned, some other department may have it etc.

As for the other company, I have not heard of such company before, Chola Bhature or whatever.

                Mavericks,

                You said
**** Iam also on the look out for insurance plans for my parents.
                Also, you said
**** They have deductible though of $400 but unlike ICICI and TATA they pay and you dont have to go running after them in India.

That means, you did not yet buy the insurance. How do you know that you don't have to run after them? Did some friend of yours tell you? Or some other reliable source?
Any information you can provide will be helpful to everyone who is in the same boat and looking for good companies.

About the deductibe, it was mentioned on the Cholamandalam MS website. They also mentioned that they would pay after the first $400 was paid. Unlike other Indian companies (ICICI , TATA) I believe you dont have to pay first and then claim from India. Now this is not personal experience or a friends experience. So I cannot vouch for them.

Kudkudia & gila2mila, I see that you are new to immihelp like me. It seems that you have had horrible experiences with Indian insurance companies, are you also on the look out for insurance ?Do you have any recommendations.

As long as the claims are handled in India (which is indeed the case in Chola), you will have to first pay and then make a claim, no matter which Indian company says what.
Before you believe them, why don't you simply call your local hospital and ask them that you are planning to buy this Chola insurance and whether they would be willing to file the claims to Mumbai, India address? If they say yes, well and good. Otherwise, it does not matter what the insurance company says as finally the hospital people are the ones that are going to demand money from you.

I hope that makes sense to you and you would agree with that.

Munnabhai, I took your advice and called a hospital near me. You were right they havent heard of Cholamandalam MS ... . The name itself had her tongue tied. Then I asked about IMG/Patriot/Liason, SRI/inbound USA and guess what its the same answer for all ...probably this is not the case in all hospitals. She said that travellers insurance are generally not accepted but if I were to bring my card in she could verify things for me after speaking to an agent of my prospective insurance company. But she did tell me that it would be easier to deal with Insurance companies based in the US.

That was because you did not ask them properly when you asked about US companies.

                          Read https://www.insubuy.com/img-first-health-ppo-network/
It tells you that if you buy Protection America, you have to ask 'Do you participate in First Health PPO network?' and they would say yes. First Health is very widely recognized PPO network all across US, and has over 500,000 physicians and 4,700 hospital that participate and accept the insurance.

                          Similarly, read https://www.insubuy.com/companies/ppo-network/
If you buy Liaison International, you have to ask 'Do you participate in Hygeia PPO network?'

Similarly, click on the link named 'Provider Directory' next to each plan on https://www.insubuy.com/visitor-insurance/ and it will give you very good idea about each plan's claim procedure.

If you ask that way, I am sure you will get very favorable answers from many hospitals and doctors.

Additionally, if you go to the providers in the network, they will only charge you the network negotiated fees which are typically lesser than their regular fees, very similar concept as the regular insurance you get from the employer.

In short, very advisable to buy insurance from US company. Highly recommended.

First of all, I am not new to this web site. I have been using immihelp.com web site for many years. This is an execellent web site that has provided answers to all my questions very nicely and clearly.

I just registered again and you would see that I had only couple of posts made. That is because I forgot my password that I registered with and I don't have access to the email address I registered with (I registered with Hotmail and I abandoned that email long back because of lot of spam there.) I had to register again.

Fortunately, I did not buy the insurance from India. Luckily, I had already seen the expereinces of other people and did not want to take any chances.
I bought Protection America from this web site itself in Feb 2006. Working out very good so far.

Yes, I am new to the web site. I wish I had read the experiences myself before. At least, I would not have to suffer myself and join the group of people having the same probem.

                              However, it is too late.
Of course, I am not going to buy from India in future. I am going to buy from US comapnies only. I have seen so many products are offered on immihelp.com itself. Next time, I am going to buy from immihelp. As the visa information given is so nice here and trustworthy which makes job very easy for people like us, I am going to trust them for insurance as well.
