  • Visitors medical insurance from USA vs India

Many people whose relatives are visiting USA are considering purchasing visitors medical insurance either from India or USA.

Even though we have had the same information in many different discussion threads and articles on this web site and on our web site for many years, we have reconciled all the information in one easy to read article.

Atlas America is not a company but a name of the insurance product that many people sell. Therefore, I don't know who you talked to.

In any case, please note that Atlas America covers acute onset of pre-existing conditions for people below the age of 70 years. Read https://www.insubuy.com/atlas-americ...ions-coverage/
It does not cover routine maintenance related to pre-existing conditions. In fact, no plan covers that.

It is very important to understand the difference. Please read

what is the use of insurance?

Almost all parents are above 68 years old. All parents have pre existing conditions. All parents are on medications. About 5% perents who come here for about 1 month will need some medical help. Since all conditions preexisting are not covered, whats the point of taking insurance when its guaranteed the claims will be denied?

If you are only looking to cover maintenance of pre-existing conditions, there is no such short term health insurance available as it will be pure loss for any insurance company to pay for.

            Medical Insurance

Had a horrible experience buying insurance from Insubuy Atlas Plan for my mother in law.She went to doctor for allergy symptoms and the insurance wanted medical records from the hospital. When a visitor come here there are no medical records available with any hospital. The hospital might have might not send records if they are none. Now HCC says preexisting but how can allergy be a preexisting condition. The hospital have referred the bill to Collection Agency.I dont know how it will affect her visiting in future. Better think before buying insurance for 70 plus.

Pre-existing conditions are not a covered benefit in any of the visitors plans. When the insurance company requests medical records from the hospitals/home country they are trying to see if the insured member was ever treated for the illness/injury before. If the insurance company requests medical records from a U.S. doctor and the insured member never received prior treatment in the U.S. then the doctors would have to respond saying "no additional records on file". If the insurance company requests medical records from the home country and the insured member does not have medical records (as many countries do not keep medical records like they do in the U.S.) then the insured member should respond explaining that medical records do not exist in their home country. While this may be one visitors first time visiting the U.S. others may have visited several times and medical records may exist. Each situation is different but the process is the same for all.

Insubuy has no control over how claims are processed as we are the Marketing Department. No matter whether preexisting or existing Apollo Insurace purchased as Visitors insutraance will not pay your medical insurance bills from Doctors.Visitors come and go away and the coolection agency sends us bills to be collected. My mother in law went for allergic reaction on forehead but the HCC Medical insurance wont pay for the visit.

Insurance for parents- One with pre-existing condition!

                    Hi

My parents are to visit me in the States for four and a half months. My mom has high blood pressure and she is 61. Dad is fine and is 63. I need a good insurance but have a few things I need to discuss. I hope to get the answers here!

                    My queries are:

                    1. What insurance should I buy for both? Should it be a joint one or separate?
                    2. Is there any underwriting process or medical checkup? If yes, where? If no, why not?
3.How does the claims work? Do we need to pay advance and then submit the claims, or they go to the insurance directly?
                    4. What if I don't use the insurance? Is there any refund, in that case?
                    5. What is the right time to buy? How many days prior to their visit?

                    Thanks
                    Asmi

                      Asmi,

Thank you for your interest in purchasing visitors insurance for your parents.

                      1.
                      A. Please visit https://www.insubuy.com and enter your criteria. You will see various plans and their prices including details. You can also call our office at (866) INSUBUY and we would be glad to help you choose the most suitable plan for your needs.

                      B. We recommend that you buy separate one for each person as it gives you more flexibility. Anyway, the total price is the same in either case.

                      2.
No. There is no underwriting or medical checkup. It is so because these are short term plans.

                      3.
Many comprehensive coverage plan participate in well known PPO network and participating providers would bill directly.

Please read various articles at https://www.insubuy.com/internationa...urance-claims/ for more information.

                      4.
You are not using the insurance only if you need to go to a Dr or hospital. As long as you are insured, you are using the insurance.

Refund is only in case of early cancellation and if there are no claims. If you keep the insurance for the entire duration, you have completely used it and therefore, there is no refund in any of the plans.

                      5.
You should buy before they arrive. Insurance can start as early as the next day or any future date you specify.

I hope this answers your questions.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to post them here or contact us at any time.

Thanks a lot for the prompt reply!

I have another question. What is the process if something happens on the way to US, for example during the flight/ at the airport (Amsterdam in my parents case)? Do you have PPO network there as well?

                        Regards,

                        Asmi

There is no concept of PPO network in Europe. Therefore, no one has it.

It would depend upon case by case basis. Usually, most hospitals are willing to bill the insurance company directly anyway. Therefore, it would have to be worked out.

                              Hello Insubuy,

thanks a lot for the previous replies. I have decided upon a few policies and need to clarify these:

                              1. I am looking at Inbound Guest policy for one month (cost $74.24) and if it works fine, would like to renew. Is there an option of renewal? I believe it is,
if so, how long after the original policy expires, can i still renew it and for how long? And what will it cost??

                              2. If I go in for a new policy after this one expires (for e.g., two months later) can I buy the same/ any other new policy from Insubuy, or do I need to wait for a certain time period to get it after the termination of the previous one? If I have any claims , how does that affect the cost of future renewals or policies?

                              Thanks in advance!

                              Asmi
