  • Need visitor insurance advice

    Narendra,

I need some advice - my parents are coming to the U.S. next month for 4 months and I am shopping for medical insurance for them. I have two questions:

    (1) After looking at your site, my impression is that comprehensive plans offer the "real" medical insurance and are much preferable over the fixed plans. I was taken aback by someone writing that they got a bill of $29000 for heart attack and IMG's Visitor Care paid only $4500 or such. So is your advice, based on your experience, to buy the comprehensive plan?

    (2) Since my dad is just past 70, my only affordable comprehensive plan option is the Protection America which offers $50,000 coverage. In your experience, is this sufficient limit? Both parents have hypertension but are otherwise in good health.

    Thanks in advance,

Thank you for your interest in purchasing health insurance for your parents.

    1. Definitely buy comprehensive plan.

IMG paid according to the schedule of benefits in Visitors Care, fixed coverage plan. They didn't do anything wrong. That just shows how limited fixed coverage plans are.

    2.
$50,000 may not be enough in many serious situations. I recommend $100,000. For 70+, WorldMed is an excellent plan that provides $100,000 coverage, available at https://www.insubuy.com/worldmed-insurance/

For $50,000 coverage, Atlas America Insurance is the best.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.
    Thanks & Regards
