Visiting the USA

I am interested in talking to someone about having friends visiting me from Japan for an extended period of time. What do we need to do to insure they can get into the Country without being hastled by Immigration?

This person may eventually bevome my spuse, but we are not engaged yet. I just want to have some discussions about this before I get to that point
