  • Travel insurance for snowboarding

    Dear costumer adviser,
I want to buy an insurance for my son traveling to Switzerland and Germany. There he will be participating in normal snowboarding, partly under guidance and always on designated tracks. He is 15 years old and will be parting on 12/23/2008 from Brasilia, Brazil, where he is resident, and will return there on 01/12/2009. On your website I could not find out what your insurance is really covering. I would like it to cover sudden sicknesses, accidents, transport to hospital, etc.
Please provide me with this information.
    kind regards

the snowboarding my son will do is plainly recreational, nothing like mountain climbing or wildwater rafting. Is this covered by the insurance when I don't opt for the sports rider (hazardous sports) option?
      Thank you

If you want to cover snowboarding, you have to take sports rider then only it will be covered otherwise it will be excluded.

sorry for asking again, but according to the exert I read on Hazardous

          Sports Rider:

The Optional Hazardous Sports Rider is available for the adventurous traveler. For an additional 20% premium, this Rider adds coverage for the Amateur sports listed in the following exclusion.

Injury resulting from participation in the following activities:

Amateur Athletics, Contact Sports, and professional sports or athletic activities. Non-contact and non-organized/non-sanctioned amateur sports or athletic activities engaged in by the Member solely for leisure, recreational, entertainment or fitness purposes are not excluded unless they are excluded by (b) through (j) of this provision; and mountaineering where ropes or guides are normally used; and aviation (except when traveling solely as a passenger in a commercial aircraft); and hang gliding, sky diving, parachuting or bungee jumping; and snow skiing or snowboarding, except for recreational downhill and/or cross country snow skiing or snowboarding (no cover provided whilst skiing away from prepared and marked in-bound territories and/or against the advice of the local ski school or local authoritative body); and racing by any animal or motorized vehicle; and spelunking; and subaqua pursuits involving underwater breathing apparatus; and jet skiing; and any other sport or athletic activity which is undertaken for thrill seeking and exposes the Member to abnormal or extraordinary risk of Injury.

This is important for me because under this section you have an excusion of accidental death and desmemberment and these I sure want to have covered.

          Thank you for your patience.

If you buy the sports rider, you will be covered under the medical portion but the ad&d will not cover you if you die while partaking in a hazardous sport. With that being said, snowboarding is not excluded in the atlas policy unless you are out of the marked ski area and/or against the advice of a ski instructor.

Thus, both medical and AD&D would be covered if you were just participating in normal snowboarding.
            Thanks & Regards
