  • Acute onset of pre-existing conditions in Atlas America

    Hi,

i am trying to get visitor insurance for my parents. They have pre-existing conditions like diabetes, heart conditions, cholesterol & arthritis. I have read your questions and answers from FAQ section. I understand that insurance does not cover them.

They have already taken medical checkups from India and are bringing the regualr medication they will need. But still in case some thing new arises , related to their current situation...

But i found a new insurance called "ATLAS AMERICA ", which is given out by the MAXN Insurance Services Inc, in California.

They state that they will cover " ACUTE ONSET OF PRE-EXISTING CONDITIONS". I have a few questions regarding that.

    1) What does Acute onset of pre-existing conditons mean?
    2) Who determines that it is an acute onset?
    3) Could you give me examples of the same?
    4) How much would the coverage be on that?
    5) WHat conditons will actually be covered based on the problems my parents will laready have?
    6) what else od i need to know in this regard.

Please let me know. My parents are leaving form India in 2 weeks. Looking forward to your reply as soon as possible.

    Thankyou

    Hello,

Thank you for your interest in purchasing Atlas America insurance.

    1.
Acute Onset of a Pre-Existing Condition:
If you are under age 70, you are covered for an Acute Onset of a Pre-existing Condition. Coverage is available up to $15,000 Maximum for Eligible Medical Expenses and up to $25,000 for Emergency Medical Evacuation. An Acute Onset of a Pre-existing Condition is a sudden and unexpected outbreak or recurrence of a Pre-existing Condition which occurs spontaneously and without advance warning either in the form of Physician recommendations or symptoms. Treatment must be obtained within 24 hours of the sudden and unexpected outbreak or recurrence.

    2.
Based on the attending physician statement and medical records, the claims department will determine whether it is acute onset of pre-existing conditions or not.

    3.
Hypothetical scenarios can't be described as there are millions of different combinations and even though some scenario may look similar to your case, it actually may not be, depending upon the medical records.

    4.
Maximum $15,000 as per answer #1.
