  • Acute onset of pre-existing conditions - Atlas America visitor insurance

    Hi,
My parents are coming to USA and I'm trying to decide some insurance for them.

    Atlas America:
    1) Can you give few examples, to describe what is "acute onset of pre-existing conditions" and what will be covered by Atlas america for 15000$ coverage ? From the definition on ur website, it is not very clear, as to what will be covered.

    2) Does Atlas America cover any prescribed medicine/drug cost ?I do not see any Rx card.

    3) From the experiences, I see that Hygeia is not much well known PPO. So do you know any cases where they do direct billing for Hygeia or most of the these doctors don't do direct billing at all ? what are the problems I may face with Hygeia PPO ?

    4) If ive to manually fill claim forms, how much time does Atlas america take for Claim processing ? Are they fast ?
I don't see any experiences on Atlas america on your website.

    5) My father had high blood pressure about 5 years back, but for last 5 years, his BP has been normal, with no medications. Then does it become a pre existing condition ?
How many years prior does Atlas america and Patriot America, consider it as pre-existing condition ?

    6) In case he gets any heart stroke now, will it be considered as preexisting, due to his BP 5 years back ?

    Thanks.

Thank you for your interest in purchasing visitors insurance for them.

    1.
An Acute Onset of a Pre-existing Condition is a sudden and unexpected outbreak or recurrence of a Pre-existing Condition which occurs spontaneously and without advance warning either in the form of Physician recommendations or symptoms. Treatment must be obtained within 24 hours of the sudden and unexpected outbreak or recurrence.

    2.
Prescription drugs are covered just like any other expense.

    3.
It depends upon the individual provider. Please read https://www.insubuy.com/hccmis-ppo-network/

    4.
    Three to four weeks.

All the experiences you are posted by users just like you. We don't have any control over who posts what kind of experience.

    5.
It would still be considered pre-existing condition. For chronic conditions, the look back period is lifetime.

      Hi,
      Thanks for your response.

My father had high blood pressure about 5 years back, but for last 5 years, his BP has been normal, with no medications. But you mentioned below that, even then it will be considered as pre-existing condition.

My father has not heart related problems at all. But in case he gets any sudden heart stroke now, and in case doctor states that this is due to his BP 5 years back, will Atlas America cover this cost at least till $15,000 ? Does "acute onset of prexisting" mean that such cases will be covered ?

And if this is not going to be covered, can you give me few examples as to what "acute onset of preexisting" with Atlas will cover.

I'm trying to decide between Patriot america and Atlas America. So just wanted to understand the coverage advantage of $15000 for acute onset with Atlas. From the definition you mentioned below, its not every clear. If you give few examples of what kind of preexisting will be covered by atlas, it may help me understand better.

      Thanks,

Unfortunately, I am not allowed to give hypothetical examples. And I am not allowed to give answers to hypothetical questions either.

The information I provided in my earlier email is the maximum information that has been approved for release by the compliance department of the insurance company.
        Thanks & Regards
