I purchased health insurance for a trip to the United States. I broke my foot while visiting. I called the insurance hotline and the representative recommended I go to a hospital and sent me a list that were covered by the insurance. He also told me that I have a $0 deductible, so I shouldn't have to pay anything but he couldn't guarentee it.
About a month after my visit, I checked my account and saw a request for more information. They needed an accident report form. I filled it out and submitted it. Since then two other claims have been denied stating they need more information from me. However, each time I have contacted them, I am told they have received the information I sent and do not need any additional information.
This type of behaviour is pretty typical from my previous experiences with Health Insurance companies in America - they will try to avoid paying claims at all costs. However, I have much less tolerance for it after having had excellent insurance in three other countries. I am still hoping they will cover it, but don't actually expect it to happen. I might have been better off just going without insurance and putting the $400 I spent on insurance towards covering my hospital bills.
