$50000 Medical bill for my father ??

My father had contracted Pneumonia while he was in U.S and had to undergo treatment worth $65,000 for 3 days. Sounds crazy isnt ?

Traveller's insurance had paid 15,000 and now the hosiptal had sent a notice to my father for paying $50,000 in India.

What are the options we have ? We are really confused ? Firstly, the bill amount charged is atrocious and we cannot afford to pay the requested money.

What are the cons of not paying the bill ? What are the ways to request the hospital thatwe cannot pay ?
