My sibling and nephew are visiting me for a period of 6 weeks and I would like to purchase visitor insurance for them. I am a resident of New York City and they will spend most of their time in NYC with possible trips to Philadelphia, Washington DC and Florida, etc.

When my parents visited previously, per your suggestion we bought Protection America (as it is very comprehensive in NY state and is renewable) in lieu of Atlas.

Will Protection America be the best insurance in this case too?

Atlas America insurance is currently the best selling insurance plan.

As long as they are not already in NY at the time of purchase, you can buy Atlas America for them.

Please note that in Atlas America, as long as one parent is insured under the plan, you get one child under 9 years of age free.

Thanks a lot for the quick reply. My sibling is currently in India, so I guess it will be fine if I bought it (I live in New York city but understand that the insured has to be outside NY at the time of purchase and mine being in NYC doesn't matter). Still a very unique rule and I don't understand why!

Has the Atlas plan improved compared to Protection America plan? When my parents visited me 18 months ago, I was advised to buy Protection America. If my parents were to visit again, should I be buying Atlas or Protection America. They are in the mid 60's and will be spending most of their time in NYC.

Yes, Atlas has improved a lot.

On the other hand, the insurance company for Protection America has not updated the plan in around 5 years to the extent that we even stopped quoting it few months ago in our quoting engine at https://www.insubuy.com. Apparently, they do not seem to be interested in maintaining this plan.
