Application
H4 visa-based EAD can be applied using paper application only, as an online application is not available.
If you are filing H4 visa EAD Form I-765, along with other forms, such as Form I-539 (Extension/Change of Non-Immigrant Stay), please file both the forms at the location specified in the other form. Otherwise, please follow the instructions here.
The location to file H4 visa EAD Form I-765 depends upon the receipt number for your H-1B principal spouse’s most recent Form I-797 Notice of Approval for Form I-129.
If that receipt number begins with EAD or LIN, file with the USCIS Dallas Lockbox Facility. If it begins with WAC, file with the USCIS Phoenix Lockbox Facility.

Tips
- No online filing is available. You must send the paper application by mail or courier.
- H4 visa EAD must be filed as regular processing only as premium processing is not available.
- Concurrent filing for EAD (Form I-765) along with H-4 visa application (Form I-539, Change of Status or Extension of Status) is allowed. However, an H-4 visa petition would have to be approved first before the EAD can be approved. USCIS may process both the petitions concurrently, but they don’t have to.
- EAD end date will coincide with the H-4 visa status validity date.
- When you apply for an EAD extension, and if the current EAD expires, there will be no 240-day grace period to continue working.
