After an Indian citizen acquires foreign citizenship, such as U.S. citizenship, the Indian passport should be sent to the nearest Indian Embassy/Consulate to get it cancelled. This can be done at the same time as applying for an Indian visa, PIO card or OCI card.
The passport will be stamped indicating that it has been cancelled because the previous holder acquired the foreign citizenship and the two corners of the front and back cover will be cut to indicate that the passport has been cancelled.
