当一个人打算前往申根地区时, 他们自然应该有足够的资金以支付他们在旅行期间的费用。
当申根签证申请人无法证明自己的经济能力时, 他们应该从申根地区的朋友、家人或其他申根地区能够真正支持他们欧洲旅行的人那里得到一封担保信。
这样的一封赞助信应该简短扼要。它应该描述签证申请人和担保人之间的关系, 他们自己的收入细节, 他们为什么希望申请人访问申根地区, 以及一旦申请人到达申根地区, 他们打算做什么。此类信函应清楚地说明赞助者愿意为来访者支付何种类型的费用。赞助信内所提供的任何信息, 均须附上有关的证明文件。
担保信应该是私人的, 但不应该有太多的个人细节。不必要的细节不应该提供。否则, 这封信就太长了, 领事官员没有时间阅读全部。
然而一封邀请信只是简单地邀请游客来申根区旅游, 一封担保信事实上承担游客的经济责任。也可以将邀请函和担保信结合一起。
担保信亦须由地方相关政府官员签字。
担保人写好担保书后, 应将担保书连同证明文件一并递交申根签证申请人。虽然领事馆可接受扫描件, 但最好提交原件, 以免产生任何疑问。所有证明文件, 除护照副本或其他身分证明文件外, 最好均提供原件。
