The U.S. Embassy in New Delhi, India, advised via Twitter on Tuesday that those planning to return to India this fall or winter to renew their U.S. visas should allow for extra time. They say that in the coming months, they expect longer-than-usual waiting times for appointments, including emergency appointment requests.
The U.S. Embassy in New Delhi has not yet resumed regular visa processing, employment-based visas included. Their in-person appointments are currently restricted to in-person F, M, and J visa appointments, as well as other appointments that meet “strict emergency criteria”.
The website does not provide any more detailed information. However, given the current world situation—slowly re-opening services as the coronavirus pandemic dies down—it would be wise to plan ahead, give yourself (much) more time than you think you’ll need in India to renew your visa, and to be patient as the Embassy works its way through the backlog of appointments and services.
