Please arrange for the storage of prohibited items before you arrive at the Consulate, as it has no storage facility.
If no ineligibilities or technical problems arise, immigrant visas are generally approved on the day of the interview and issued later the same day. Your passport will be sent by courier to you at the address that you specify. You hand in the fee receipt and get a sealed envelope (visa packet) per each IV given along with the passports.

The Immigrant Visa Unit processes visas from 8 AM until 5 PM Monday through Friday. New IV applicants are seen by appointment only. If you have been asked to return in person, you must come at 7:30 AM on any working day with your passport(s) and any other documents requested from you. The Consulate is closed to the public on both U.S. and Indian holidays and does not see visa applicants on the last Friday of every month.
If you need to make a photo copy of any document, it will cost you $1 (Rs 75/- as of Aug 3, 2020) and you will have to stand in line to pay the cashier.

Opened Sealed Packet
If you opened the sealed packet, you must visit the application center in Western India and submit the passport, the visa packet, and pay the logistics fee.
The packet will be sealed again and couriered to you along with your passport.
Error in Immigrant Visa
If you find an error in the immigrant visa, you must visit the application center in Western India and submit the passport, the visa packet, cover letter that mentions the type of error in the visa, and pay the logistics fee.
The error will be corrected, new immigrant visa will be stamped and the passport along with the sealed packet will be couriered to you.
