OCI for foreign spouse of Indian citizen
Applied for OCI in the category of foreign spouse of Indian Citizen.
This was a very long and arduous process.
Married in 2019 in NY.
Started application process in late summer 2022 in Texas.
Required multiple back and forth to get the marriage certificate apostilled in 2022. It is a 3 step process documented on various City and State websites. Essentially, one needs to get a certified copy, send it back to have it verified by a city official, and then send it back to have it apostilled by a state official. This process took about 4-5 months due to COVID-19 related delays.
Started application with CGI Houston / VFS in Spring 2023. Assembling the documents was tedious and took a lot of effort. The documentation process is geared towards Indian nationals and so obtaining equivalent docs for US nationals was not easy. Formally submitted docs in July 2023. Had video interview in Oct-2023 and received OCI 1 week later.
Overall, it took close to 1 year!
