Surrender Certificate

With services being handled by VFS starting Nov 4th , there is no option to register for renunciation of passport on VFS site.
Currently stuck to apply for renunciation and hence OCI , anybody ran into similar issue or were able to submit their
renunciation application to VFS?

Where can I find RENUNCIATION CERTIFICATE to fill and sign the document before sending to VFS? I was able to find this document in CKGS site, but not in VFS site.

Can some one please point me where I can find checklist for Renunciation in VFS site?

Hi,
I recently naturalized as a US citizen. I went to the Indian consulate's website to look for renunciation procedure and it requires US passport. Due to Covid, The department of state is having severe delays with respect to issuing US passport. Do I need to renunciate within 3 months? I doubt I would get my passport back within 3 months. Anyone in similar situation? Thanks!

Error found in documentation (Middle name missing. This was a software bug on CKGS' side which others have complained about on Yelp. There is no way you can fix this because the filled in form has the middle name but the software generated form does not. Lucky one of their staff understood and they fixed my form, the bug will be fixed some day. I had to pay USPS $8 for a 2 day trackable post for their error).

Pretty good timing considering other posts I saw. What might have helped? Docs were well organized with cover letter. But it may just have been luck!

Whole process took almost 1 and a half month

I applied for Indian Citizenship Renunciation after becoming a US Citizen.

I applied for Stand-alone Renunciation as SF consulate doesn't allow Renunciation + OCI service.

Here is my Timeline: I sent the application on 21st October 2019.

Please be patient if you're applying through SF Consulate, as it will take more than 30days, and they mention it is 30 business days, so you will have to subtract all the weekends, and any other holidays mentioned on CKGS website.

Dec 02, 2019 - Monday04:00 pm Renunciation Certificate ‘Received’ at the CKGS application centre and is at the ‘Sorting Facility’ where it is being processed for delivery.

I recently became a US Citizen and applied for Renunciation at the SF consulate. It is a real slow process, compounded by the fact that this is one of two consulates where you can't apply for renunciation and the OCI card concurrently - so much bureaucracy!

Anyway, here is a my timeline:

Oct 03, 2019: Sent application form to CKGS SF via FedEx
Oct 04, 2019: Package received by CKGS, not verified
Oct 07, 2019: Application verified by CKGS
Oct 08, 2019: Application 'under process' at CKGS
Oct 09, 2019: Application 'in transit' and 'under process' at consulate
Nov 07, 2019: Application sent to CKGS by consulate and after sorting, handed over to FedEx
Nov 08, 2019: Package delivered to me

I can't believe it took the consulate almost a month for this renunciation. I am heading to India for a few weeks (have obtained the 1 year e-visa) and will apply for OCI after I return from India.

can anyone share your experience on how long it has taken you to get your renunciation certificate back from the san francisco consulate? How long did it take your pp to go back from the embassy back to ckgs?

I am trying to get surrender certificate. I have lost both my expired and invalid Indian passport as well as my US naturalization certificate. I can get the police report for the lost passport. But is there anything else I can use in place of naturalization certificate. I do have copies of my lost Indian passport and valid and current US passport. I know I can apply for a replacement Naturalization Certificate. But that can take up to 6 months. I want to get the surrender certificate soon so that I can apply for tourist visa.

Please advise.
